Early this morning, I was enjoying my coffee on the porch. A rustle in the woods put Gidget on alert. No barking, yet she was standing at attention at the edge of her fence. I looked up and caught the hint of a White-tail doe. And then a tiny “bleat” sound. I snatched Gidget up and tucked her inside while I grabbed my camera.

The pictures are not super, shot through the porch screen, but sure enough, out peeks a doe from the pond’s edge.

She knew I was lurking in the shadows.

And then, much to my delight, this little fawn followed behind.

The fawn was oblivious to my presence.

Although I was quiet and didn’t say a word, the click of my camera shutter seemed so very loud in the morning calm.

The baby stayed close to mama,

following her lead.

I wish they had lingered.

It was such a joyful way to start the day.
