It’s less than three weeks to WHRL’s Winter Tree Festival & Auction on December 2-3. That means that the ribbon, baubles, and crafting supplies have exploded throughout the house. My first entry, which started this summer, is complete!

Navigating Downeast Maine Christmas Tree

A few years ago, our last in-person Festival before COVID hit, I created a Navigating Maine tree with nautical maps decoupaged onto wood disks. I’ve bumped it up a notch this year – the same theme, but different execution. I cut out popular Downeast harbors, peninsulas, and islands using nautical maps from NOAA. I sealed these into 2.5″ bezel pendant blanks using craft epoxy resin. The result is a bit more of a refined look compared to my earlier attempts.

At a steep discount, I snagged a few 24″ tall flocked artificial trees in August. Tiny LED lights, aqua ribbon, frosted “sea glass” baubles, and a shimmery paper 3D star tree-topper round out this little tree.

I’m still pondering if I’ll add other decorations or if it’s finished as is.

This event is my favorite of the year, and Hannah and I have a list of creations we’re working on. Here’s our punch list – provided we don’t add anything more to the list!

  • A Monarch Butterfly tree with felt butterflies (Hannah)
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas tree (Hannah)
