We spent New Year’s Day hiking the Hollingsworth Trail. What’s usually an hour walk turned into a few hours on the trail.

I was eager to begin 2021 outdoors. The temp was just above freezing with little to no wind – a perfect day for a hike, especially with a snowy forecast for tomorrow. It might be the last chance we have for a walk without snow and ice.

Petit Manan Lighthouse

The skies were clear, and Petite Manan Light was visible in the distance.

The seas were calm with gentle waves that seemed to pull all of my worries away.

collecting driftwood

Hannah was on a mission. She’s got plans for her whales in sweaters, and it involves driftwood. She filled a backpack and carried out a few pieces as well.

sea urchin

I meandered along, just enjoying myself. I discovered a dried-up sea urchin.

patterns in the sand

I love the ever-changing patterns created in the sand by the receding tide – such perfect curves that remind me of a winter forest of trees.

Hannah is always game to join me on my adventures.

The tip of the trail – Chair Pond Head looks out on Piegon Hill Bay.

susan jordan bennett

I could have sat on these rocks all afternoon enjoying the view, studying the rafts of sea ducks, breathing in the salty air. My heart was so happy as we made our way back to the car.

May 2021 bring more beauty and peace.
