I’ve enjoyed having Hannah home for two months – but we’re only ten days out from beginning our journey west to return her to school for the spring semester. That means fitting in as many winter beach trips as we can. Our first stop today was Sandy River Beach. Two hours past high tide and there was no beach exposed to explore – the waves still strong after yesterday’s storm.

So we admired the wave action for a bit before heading down the road to Beals. The wind off Boat Cove was so strong – that even though the temps were above freezing – we lasted ten minutes in our search for sea glass and driftwood.

A bit further down the road, we explored the beach at Beals Town Park, where the wind was blocked a bit by the island. Hannah went right, and I went left across the cove.

The day was cast in shadow.

But for a brief, glorious moment, the sun brightened, chasing the shadows away.

I rounded the point and startled these Common Goldeneyes who took off for quieter waters.

Ten days and counting.
