Hannah has a summer punch list to complete before returning to school. Visiting Acadia National Park was at the top. We’d planned to do this on her birthday next week – to make a day of it. Then came word from school that all students should quarantine for fourteen days before arrival on campus. Quarantine makes total sense, and we’d had the same idea since we’ll be staying with my parents on our way to Ohio. However, her birthday falls in the middle of that quarantine window. It’s easy to have outings at home where we are isolated from others. So In preparation for sticking close to home we’ve finished our back-to-school shopping early. The weather forecast for her birthday (rainy) made it clear that moving up the visit to Acadia was the right thing to do.

So adventuring we went to Acadia.

Surprisingly, there were plenty of parking spots at the top of Cadillac Mountain, and it was easy to enjoy this majestic place without worry about COVID-19.

The day was warm, but not humid, making it that much more enjoyable after the unusually hot and humid we’ve experienced lately.

We could have lingered here all day,

but finally followed Park Loop Road to enjoy the sights. It seems that everyone at Acadia National was at Sand Beach – the traffic through that one spot was unbelievable. Parking lots were full, and the cars lined the edge of the road for a mile.

We ventured into Bar Harbor for ice cream and to window shop. We didn’t walk into a single store except for the ice cream shop, and that experience was enough to send us on our way home. Tourists must think that Maine is COVID-free. Despite our trying to maintain social distance in the ice cream shop, the folks behind us in line had no concern for personal space. We enjoyed our ice cream in the park and then moseyed on home, grateful for this beautiful day. (Photo by Hannah.)

Only ten days to our road trip take Hannah back to Denison University in Ohio for her next to last semester of college! Although she’s been home since mid-March, I’m feeling the time dwindling and want to make the most of these last days with her at home.
