photographing Beals, Maine

I tagged along with Hannah today. She was on a mission to take pictures for her school photography assignment. The subject was beach trash.

It was a beautiful day in Beals

with lots of whitecaps in the harbor.

seaglass in beals, Maine

Hannah scoured the landscape collecting images of trashed lobster pots, lost buoys, bits of rope, discarded work gloves and bottles.

discovering seaglass in Maine

She found treasures along the way – sea glass and pottery shards – two pockets full. She told me that she’s rethinking her cinema major. She might become an official sea glass hunter and travel the world in search of sea glass.

While she worked, I took pictures of the landscape.

Sandy River Beach

Sandy Beach was glorious; the sand almost warm to the touch.

Waves kicking up at Sandy River beach.

The crazy wind made it a brisk walk.

cross seas at sandy river

The wind was blowing strongly against the current, creating a perpendicular set of waves. These two wave systems collided, fighting to cross each other. It was pretty cool.

sea spray at Roques Bluff

At Roque Bluffs, the wind kicked up a spray as the waves tumbled in.

Three beaches, lots of wind, and much joy for a Saturday afternoon.
