The inspiration for this project was a painted coaster I spotted in a gift shop a couple of years ago. My design has the silhouette of Cadillac Mountain in the background with a full moon. The day after drawing this design, Hannah and I visited Schoodic, where you’ll see variations on this mountain view. On this day, we spotted at least a dozen loons wintering in the bay. Kismet. The sighting gave me the motivation to finish the project.

Paul created a frame for me with his CNC machine. He used a piece of plywood and cut a rabbet in the back to hold the design. He cut a backer board out of Luan, and I used spray adhesive to attach the felt to the backer board.

When the felt was tucked in the frame, I used framing points to hold it in the frame. The completed felt design is 6″ square. With the frame it’s 7″ square.

Now I need to decide how to stain and finish off the frame.
