Today was my first visit to the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden in Boothbay. On this next-to-last day of the season there was little in bloom and the worker bees were putting gardens to bed. Yet I could still appreciate the beauty of the place, the hardscape and design of the space taking center stage until next season.

I took dozens of pictures. Lots of wonderful pictures full of vibrant autumn colors and rich late afternoon light. Then towards the end of our visit I used the LCD viewfinder to frame a picture and saw this readout on the display: No memory card.

My heart stopped right in the middle of the meditation garden. I was horrified. The magic of all those image gone. I just about cried and then pulled out my iPhone for a last ditch effort to capture the experience.

I need to go back.
