There’s been a flurry of bird activity under the lean-to this week. Curious, I ventured out back and discovered that the phoebe nest I left untouched in the rafters last summer has been re-purposed yet again.

Each year the phoebes line the nest with more material and each year the nest gets taller and taller.

After contorting my body to try and peer into the nest while perched on top of a ladder, I finally got smart and slid my iPhone over the edge and snapped a pic and found five tiny eggs.

A bit later I found Mama Phoebe sitting on the nest. The trouble is, if you pause in the yard to look at her, she flies away leaving the nest unattended until you leave. It’s going to be tough to keep my distance waiting for babies to hatch.
