Granny Gadget gets the prize for giving the most unusual gift this Christmas. One of her gifts for Hannah was an Ancestry.com DNA test kit.

I’m not sure Hannah knew what to expect, but she followed the instructions, spit into the little vial, and sent it off. This week, the results came in.

There were no real surprises. Paul has the Boston-Irish-Catholic thing going on. I knew that I brought a mix of Irish, Welsh and German to the mix, but the Scandinavian was unexpected. Still, it’s quite amazing to know that from a little bit of DNA, your family history can be mapped out like this.

My “baby” brother joined our family via adoption when he was just six-weeks-old. I can imagine how truly fascinating participation in this project might be – and scary. Although he looks as WASP-y as do I!
