This morning, I lured Paul and Hannah out of bed early for a drive to Schoodic Point. I wanted to photograph the waves tropical storm Arthur brought to town.

As it turned out, this is as big as the crashing waves got. Not too spectacular.

I confess that I was a little disappointed, but the stunning view of Cadillac mountain was worth the drive.

And then I discovered something totally unexpected.

Wild iris growing in the rock crevasses all over the point.

They were a day or two (and one big storm) past their prime, but a treat none-the-less.

Paul enjoyed a bit of fresh air, waiting patiently (I think) for me to finish scrambling across the rocks.

Hannah, on the other hand, was content to sit in the car and listen to iTunes – until I forced her out. Teens.

If Hannah hadn’t joined us, she would have missed this remarkable piece of driftwood.

I say it’s a barracuda; Paul calls it a shark. What do you think?
