The new girls on the block are ready to leave the brooder and be introduced the the rest of the farm critters. Last year taught us that a gradual approach is the best way to merge new chickens with an existing flock.

So Paul built the new girls a mini-coop – a half-way house of sorts tucked between the coop run and my asparagus bed.

These little girls will spend the next few months here, getting used to being around the big girls, and then free range with them.

With any luck, after a while the two groups will merge into one happy family.

Wishful thinking? Probably!
