Thank you so much for the great effort you have made to document your life over the past few years in Maine. My father used to lease a camp in Rangely from the Brown Paper Co. called “Little Beaver” when I was young (now 71). We hiked in with packs full of supplies to the first lake called “Big Beaver”, uncovered an aluminum boat, put our gear in and hopped in for the ride, rowing over across the lake toward Little Beaver. We would then empty out everything, cover the boat with brush and pack into Little Beaver on a narrow trail. The camp was a Log Cabin and the lake as clear as a bell with plenty of loons! (Note: I think you can drive in now!) The camp came complete with a cook shack, two holer and plenty of black flies. My dad and his best friend built a long warf out between two big rocks, and my sister and I would sit at the end of it, dangling our feet in the cold water.
My trip down your memory lane included many memories and I thank you so much. Your home is great, and all the animals too, and especially Hannah! She sounds like such a sweet girl, and I’m sure she is learning to cook all those goodies you’re making!
Hope to share more another time. It’s late and I’m really tired. I brought in a load of wood today due to the drop in temperature, so the wood stove is pumping. This used to be my husbands job, but I lost him last June, so it’s just me and the three kids now: Jessie, my loving black lab; Missie, the queen kitty, and Soccer, my Hans Macaw, who sounds off better than a guard dog. They all keep me company and it’s amazing how much talking we all do together!!!
I don’t think it rose past 40 degrees today, and for May that’s cold. I think a hot cup of tea and a warm bed are in order!
Well, thanks again for making my day, and I hope you had a happy Mother’s Day this year, and tell your husband he’s doing a Great Job. I have 5 acres here in cow country, up the street from the 4H and the Mass State trail and there is lots of work to do, and I haven’t put the garden in yet due to the rainy weather. My apple trees are all in bloom, the peaches and pears and plums too, so I can appreciate having a “handy man” to be around. You are blessed!
