Unlike some other turkeys, our birds did not get a pardon. Thanks the turkey has been resting in the fridge since Sunday. Chris went off to freezer camp.

I’m not a big fan of turkey, but I love all of the accouterments – the stuffing, the cranberry salad, the sweet potato casserole, the pumpkin pie. Mmmm.

I digress. Today was turkey day and I cooked up our first very own homegrown turkey. It was, without a doubt, the best turkey I’ve ever had (sorry, Mom!). It had a pleasant, mild flavor and was amazingly moist. There is no comparison to the deep freeze turkey from the grocery.

There’s something special about raising your own turkey. Sure, it’s a lot of work, but there’s a greater appreciation for the food that graces your table. You are somehow more connected to the earth and it feels good.

So on this day of thanks I am ever so grateful for my family and the wonderful home we are creating together. I am blessed to have a roof over my head, food on the table, and work I enjoy. I am fortunate to be heading to Pennsylvania to spend time with my parents this coming week.

Best wishes to you this Thanksgiving Day.
