Snape the kitty has earned his stripes. Last night during the late night news I heard a scuffle sound followed by Snape (aka Boo) growling. He never does that unless he’s managed to snatch a fallen piece of pasta or green been in the kitchen. I followed him into the office.

It’s dark, and I see something fuzzy in his mouth. I looked around and spied his sparkly purple toy mouse on the carpet in the hall. Oh no. This must be  the real deal. I darted back to the living room. “Sweetieeeeeee, I think Boo’s got a mouse!”

(Please note the pictures below are not for the faint of heart if you don’t like mice.)

Paul continued to play his computer game while I looked on expectantly thinking you’re the man of the house. Do something! He finally accepts that I’m not going away and leaves the comfort of his recliner and checks out the situation.

“Yup, Boo’s got a mouse.” He then proceeds to praise Boo, telling him what a good boy he is, what a good kitty. “I have new found respect for the Boo. I didn’t think he had it in him,” he said.

We quickly closed Hannah’s bedroom door so Snape wouldn’t deliver the mouse to her. He likes to leave presents. Sparkly toy mice. Dishtowels. String. Whatever. I’m amazed she slept through things. Every light in the house was on. I’m squealing in dismay. I’ve got the camera out and we’re trying to coax Snape into turning the mouse over to us. He’s clearly not ready to do so and proceeds to bat it around, toss it into the air and pounce on it again. I think he wants the interactive game back. Paul finally returned to his recliner saying, “He’ll put it down when he’s ready.”

After a little more watching and waiting I went to bed and shut the door. I didn’t want to find the dead mouse delivered to me as a gift.

This morning, Hannah barged into our bedroom.”Did you get Boo a new mouse toy? A fuzzy, life like one?!”

Turns out she left her door open at some point in the night. She’s lucky that Snape left the gift on the floor by her bed, and not in her bed.

“Eeewwwww! I almost stepped on it!” she squealed.

There’s definitely a strut in Boo’s walk today. He knows he’s done good. He’s the Cat. The kitty has finally become a Cat.
