This morning I was lounging on the front porch with my cup of coffee and a book, just taking pleasure in life. Hannah came out to join me and curled up in a chair with a blanket and turned on her Nintendo DS. After a few moments I asked her to turn the volume off – it was killing my Sunday morning happy. She did so without a grumble and we enjoyed some summer quite. Summer quiet – you know what I mean – crickets, katydids, hummingbirds. Those cheerful little sounds that let you know it’s summer. And then Hannah said, “You know, all this chirping is really annoying. It keeps me awake at night.” And then she packed up and headed inside.

Huh.
