This morning Hannah and I joined a group from the Downeast Coastal Conservancy for a hike to the top of Pigeon Hill in Steuben (about 15-20 minutes from our house). The entire hike was a little more than a mile. After the first five minutes, the trail incline increased and both Hannah and I found ourselves out of breath. We are clearly not getting great cardio workouts from cutting and hauling wood at home. The scrabbling over rocks and the huffing and puffing (and the few whines from H) were definitely worth it. The vista from the top is amazing.

Despite the humid, hazy day I managed a few good panoramic pics. Using my little Canon A700, I took side by side images and then stitched them together with panorama software. Craig Snapp, who lead the hike, has some wonderful panorama images here.

Hannah On Top of Pigeon Hill

She made it to the top!

We didn’t notice a lot of wildlife today, but we did see a great blue heron in flight. It looked terribly clumsy and unaerodynamic.
